As children, we learnt from the adults around us – family, teachers, neighbours, clergy, etc., how to behave and how to think. We trusted them to guide us in the right way as we grew up.
Not every person in our lives were a positive influence. Some people have experienced abuse of power by the adults they trusted.
We often have a difficult time as adults learning to trust our own instinct that has been shaped by the adults of our childhood.
For some people, that instinct is clear and for others, it is clouded.
As adults we find ourselves trying to “discover” ourselves.
This is not an easy task. We must learn how to think for ourselves, make choices for ourselves and hope and pray that we are in the right path.
Sometimes the path we have chosen leads to choices we later regret. Some people find themselves on a road of self-destruction – alcohol, drugs and harmful behaviour.
Others find it easier to adapt to adulthood. It is an ongoing lesson that never stops.
How do we trust that we are doing the right thing?
Do we feel peace and confidence?
Do we feel disillusioned?
Do we question what we do?
No matter what choices we have made as adults, there is always room for self-improvement. We should always question ourselves about our choices.
Stop to consider what we’ve done as adults. There is always an opportunity to improve ourselves.
If you have made choices you regret, take time to consider how you can change that in the future.
If you have dreams that you would like to fulfill, consider what you can realistically do and strive to attain those dreams.
Happiness, peace and love for yourself is what will make you a better person. It will also help to improve relationships with others and your ability to handle things that come your way.
Never give up. Never think you can’t change something about yourself that you wish you hadn’t done.
Don’t blame yourself for things that happened to you as a child or as an adult that were not in your control.
Start today and take a step forward to having more confidence in yourself.
Learn about self-care. Learn what you need to have peace in your life. To reduce the stress in your life.
It may feel impossible but I promise, it is doable.
Step by step. Bit by bit.
