Learning to Live in Christ — A Lesson in Humility

In Philippians 2:6–11, St Paul reminds us of the humility of Christ and the great sacrifice He made for each of us.

Christ, who is God, humbled Himself by taking on our humanity. He came not to be served, but to serve, ultimately giving His life for our salvation.

What does this teach us about how we are to live as Christians?

We can spend our lives studying Scripture, attending church, teaching others and doing what we believe is right. Yet we must also remember to stop and listen to Christ.

It is not enough to know His teachings. We must learn to live them.

Humility is not simply about how we treat others. It is also about recognizing that we do not have all the answers, that we need God’s guidance, and that sometimes we need to be quiet enough to hear Him.

We may become so occupied with doing good works that we forget to nurture our own relationship with Christ.

St Paul reminds us earlier in Philippians 2:5:

“You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.” (NLT)

This is something we need to reflect upon in our daily lives.

Are we allowing Christ to guide our words and actions? Are we listening to Him, or are we so busy doing what we believe is right that we forget to seek His will?

We are all learning. None of us has reached perfection.

Perhaps we need to spend a little less time trying to accomplish everything and a little more time simply sitting with Christ, allowing His Word to guide us.

May God bless each and every one of you.
