Life Has Amazing Surprises

My 40s were difficult years. Right after my 40th birthday I was diagnosed with breast cancer and 4 surgeries in 4 years, broke my back (again) in 2019 that took 6 months bedrest to heal and then covid in January 2021 which I battled for 4 months, and more hospital visits and stays than I can count. Then in the midst of that my Grandma, my protector, was called Home and one year later Mum, my best friend was also called Home and 4.5 years later, my Dad joined my Mum. All of this led to a mental breakdown that led to 2 years in the Homewood (mental health hospital) program.

I began my 50s and then lost Dayton, my sidekick Service Dog of 11 years. Eight months later I had a stroke.

I truly had a terrible 11 years.

It seems Glory to God, that things are taking a positive turn. I completed my PhD in Humanities and recently started my PhD in Social Work. I had almost given up hope that I would get another sidekick Service Dog and then unexpectedly Bobby came into my life 2 weeks ago.

My health has been stable since last June. I’m training Bobby, working on my PhD, have a part-time job lined up for when I finish my PhD, I have a solid team of PSWs and holding my own as Self-Manager.

As my birthday approaches, I see that I’m in a completely different place than I was 12 years ago and all the years between.

I live in the present and thank God for that. If someone had told me during my 40s that there would be a positive future, I would never have believed them.

Today I know I’m truly blessed. I’ve lost too many friends in addition to the my family. So much loss, so many health struggles and just devastation that hit in domino effect.

Life is a blessing.
