What would you do if you lost all your possessions?
My family did not have a lot in regards to material things when I was growing up.
We were taught that the most important things in life were God, family and love.
I grew up amongst a number of survivors of the Holocaust (Shoah).
From an early age Grundy, my grandma, taught me :
They can take away your home and all your belongings. They can take away your family. They can’t take away the knowledge you’ve learnt and they can’t take away your soul.
Grundy’s greatest gift to me
These words have stayed with me for 45 years. Yes, I do have material possessions but they do not define me. It would be heartbreaking if I lost them but it wouldn’t be the end of the world.
I still have my faith and I’ve still got the knowledge I’ve acquired over the years.
As long as I have my faith and love for others, I will survive.
